Today was the end of the best week of the year mileage wise, 153 miles. I ended the week with a nice 65 mile effort today. Yesterday was a brisk 37 mile group ride. That gave me 102 miles for the weekend. I am almost back on pace compared to where I was last year at this time and that’s with missing most of January due to a bum ankle (tendinitis). Last May I rode 491 miles and so far this May I have done 381. I should be able to beat that this year even with some forced time off of the bike over the long Memorial Day weekend.
Since doing the century two weeks ago my body has responded nicely to the longer distances and I feel very comfortable on 50 mile plus rides now. I am at a slightly higher level than before mid April and I want to keep that going throughout the rest of the year. I would like to do a few more centuries including the 6 Gap at the end of September which has almost 11,000 feet of climbing over 100 miles. To do that one comfortably (if that’s possible) I will need to focus on doing back to back long rides on the weekends. I will also need to make a few trips up to the mountains and work on climbing some more.
I am very happy with things right now as far as my road biking goes but I need to keep moving forward if I hope to meet my goals for the rest of the year.

I am sorry, but i have to ask you. How old are you.

I’m 44 and ride 100-150 miles a week on average. I have plenty of friends who are in their 50′s who ride 100+ miles a week. Unless you are suffering from a medical condition, keep riding!
