This was a good week.  I got back on track with my training and felt pretty good.  I hit it hard on Tuesday doing 2×20 minutes with the first 20 minutes at 97% of FTP and the 2nd at 95%.  On Wednesday I did a 45 minute interval at 90% and on Thursday I did another 2×20 at 98% and 85%.  I rode outside on Saturday and Sunday for a total of just under 3 hours.  What I really like is that I got a full two hours in the sweet spot.  I am still trying to get used to riding so hard on the trainer day in and day out.  I can’t say I really like it but I need to do it if I hope to maintain my fitness over the long, dark Winter.  It’s tolerable especially because I can get the workouts done in under an hour and almost every weekend is nice enough for me to ride outside.  That helps break things up a bit.

Looking Ahead

I plan on doing pretty much the same type of workouts for the next two weeks then take a small break the week of Christmas.  I can feel myself getting stronger so I know the workouts are doing some good.

I’m hoping to be able to do some time trials in 2009 and that is part of my motivation to do all of these indoor rides.  There is a local race series called The Georgia Cup, and they are talking about adding a time trial series.  In past years they have had time trials only as part of their “omnium” events (criterium, road race, time trial all in one weekend).  The time trials were short and if you wanted to just do the time trials you had to pay for the whole event which was pretty expensive for a 10 mile time trial.  Hopefully they can get the series put together.  I think they will have a great response to it if they do.

How is your training going so far? Tell us about it in the comments.

Ride On.
