Time for yet another Summer beer, a Somer Orange Honey Ale from Rogue. This is a new year-round offering from them and it is brewed with Oregon honey, Orange, Coriander, Oats, & Chamomile. I decided to have the beer with a dinner of grilled chicken sausages off of the Big Green Egg:
Appearance: This beer pours a nice light honey color with a ton of bubbles streaming up from the bottom of the glass, forming a bright white head.
Smell: The smell is fairly light but there is honey, Orange citrus and some malt sweetness.
Taste: The taste is a lot more prominent than the smell with a clover honey, Orange and Lemon, along with Coriander. It is a light bodied beer. The aftertaste is mostly honey with some orange and a bit of bitterness.
Drinkability: This is a refreshing Summer beer. The 5.1%ABV is on the lighter side.
This is a good beer. It looks nice in the glass and has some good flavors along with just a hint of hop bitterness at the very end. The only area that was a little out of character for the beer was the aroma, which was on the lighter side. This is a great candidate for a quality “lawnmower beer” to be consumed after doing some yardwork. It goes down easy, is refreshingly crisp, and has enough flavor to make it enjoyable to drink.
Here’s the score:
1. Appearance- 8 points (out of 10)
2. Smell- 6 points (out of 10)
3. Taste- 16 points (out of 20)
4. Drinkability- 7 points (out of 10)
Total 37 (out of 50) Points-4 Mugs

Haven’t seen this one at my shop yet, but I will be on the lookout. Rogue produces good beers consistently so I am sure I will enjoy this one like I have all their other brews.
