Rogue Time Again
Rogue Brewing is becoming a favorite of mine. Everything I’ve had from them has been pretty good. I was in the beer store and saw their Hazelnut Brown Nectar so I picked it up to go with some sirloin steak I was planning on grilling up on the Big Green Egg. This beer is Rogue’s take on a traditional Brown Ale. They add Hazelnut extract to the beer to give it its unique taste:
This beer is pretty darn good. It has a definite hazelnut aroma and some malt sweetness. The hop presence is minimal but “well placed”. The taste is a lot like the smell with a prominent hazelnut flavor along with some sweetness and a slight nutty taste. There is a touch of bitterness to back up the malt sweetness. It has a medium body and decent carbonation. The beer went very well with the beef, just like the bottle said it would
Once again Rogue did not disappoint. Get some if you can and try it for yourself.
Here’s the score:

3. Taste- 16 points (out of 20)
4. Drinkability- 8 points (out of 10)
Total 38 (out of 50) Points-4 Mugs

I know I have had this beer, but don’t remember it one way or another. Time to revisit!
It’s Rogue Time for me, too! I managed to get hold of a few bottles of this beer (as well as their Shakespeare Stout) last week. The nuttiness was amazing, and made the beer one of the strangest I’ve had lately. It’s not quite the sort of beer I’d want to drink regularly, but I’ve stored some away as an occasional novelty. I must follow your example and try one with dinner some time in the future. The Shakespeare Stout was exquisite – one of my favourite beers straight away.
As well as the Rogue beers, a host of products from several other US breweries (Dogfish Head, Odell, Terrapin, Speakeasy,…) have shown up here in the UK in the last couple of weeks. I hope they keep it up!
I liked this beer and I think it goes better with food than by itself. I will definitely buy it again to have with grilled beef, it matched up very well.
Michael, maybe I need to come to the UK to get Odells! We don’t get it here in Georgia yet which is a bit depressing since they make some very good beers.
