New Belgium Mighty Arrow
Spring Is The Air
We’ve had a fairly cold winter here in Atlanta. Nothing like the North, but for here it has been cold. Last weekend we had our 2nd snowfall of the year (about 3 inches) which is always nice to see but I’m ready for Spring to get here. I picked up my 1st “Spring Seasonal” beer, the New Belgium Brewing Mighty Arrow hoping that by me drinking a beer meant for Spring would help Spring arrive faster:
Mighty Arrow is an OK beer. The aroma is the best part of the beer, just like the 2 Below I reviewed a couple of months ago. In fact, the aroma almost seems exactly the same! The beer looks decent in the bottle but the taste falls apart, once again like the Two Below, but not as severely. There was a slight earthy/flat flavor that was not at all like the aroma. Drinkability is good and the 6% ABV isn’t too overwhelming. I will enjoy the rest of my six pack but I don’t think it will be purchased again, there are too many Pale Ales that I like better.
Here is the score:
- Appearance- 7 points (out of 10)
- Smell- 9 points (out of 10)
- Taste- 14 points (out of 20)
- Drinkability- 8 points (out of 10)
Total 38 (out of 50) Points- A 4 Mug Rating
ABV 6.0%

I have to almost wholeheartedly agree with your insights. I’m formerly a Northern Colorado native living in North Georgia….so I know these things. New Belgium may have made a slight mistake in releasing a pretty darn good IPA with this Pale Ale which is perhaps, although very drinkable, something that needs some work. I love the blog!
Hey Derek,
I generally love new Belgium stuff but the Mighty Arrow was a little disappointing. The Ranger is very good.
Glad you like the blog and thanks for commenting!
I’d have to disagree. I grew up in Ft. Collins, and know many of the people whom work at NB and at Odells. This beers hops are amazing. They are very crisp, clean, and leave your pallet clean, without the skunky, nasty coffe-breath-esque aftertaste that many of New Belgiums beers leave with you. I have only really liked Beir De Mars, 2 below, skinny dip, and this. Many of the other brews taste like a malty-sesame mix….and leave your mouth nasty and dry.
Quite to the contrary with this beer. The hops are mixed in well, a great fusion. Their effect on your ….say….consciousness…is very akin to another “product” that Ft. Collins is known for. *Cough….
Other than disagreeing with the above commenters and the review, I love the site! My three favorite things! BBB!
Hi Mo,
We lived in Ft Collins for 15 years and can remember when New Belgium first started. It’s a great brewery and I generally like their beers. The Mighty Arrow and 2 Below do have a fantastic hop aroma and as along as they are consumed fairly cold they are very good beers. I had no problem finishing the six-packs.
Glad you like the blog! I’m testing a new theme so let me know what you think of it. I’ll post something about it as well.
