The Andre Mug Returns:
It was a very hot day(90+) and I was just done cutting the grass so I decided to do another King Can beer review. This time Andre helped me drink a Natural Ice 24oz which is made by Anheuser Busch:
Appearance: Natural Ice pours a very, very light, straw color, is very clear, and has visible bubbles coming off the bottom of the Mug. The head is very white but disappears almost instantly and leaves zero lacing.
Smell: Not much of a smell except a little corn, grain, and a very small hint of hops. Nothing really vile was detected.
Taste: The taste was virtually nothing, pretty amazing. Almost zero hops and a little fizzy. Once again, no vileness in the taste.
Drinkability: This is a barely drinkable beer, as long as it is consumed ICE COLD. The ABV of 5.9% is a little strong for how totally flavorless the beer is. As the beer warms up it becomes even less drinkable.
The 1st 1 Mug Beer
Natural Ice was a disappointment, I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised about that though. There was almost nothing to it except for a fair amount of alcohol. I guess the “Ice brewed” refers to the total lack of flavor
As a hot weather “lawnmower beer” I’d rather have something like a Coors Light. At least that had a bit of flavor along with a light body that makes it OK for drinking in the hot weather. The only thing I can think Natural Ice is good for is for slamming back 2-3 of ‘em to get a quick buzz on. There’s nothing flavor or smell wise to hinder the fast consumption of alcohol. It’s not worth the money I paid for it ($1.39). If you want a “lawnmower” beer buy something else.
Here’s the (very low) score:
1. Appearance- 2 points (out of 10)
2. Smell- 1 points (out of 10)
3. Taste- 3 points (out of 20)
4. Drinkability- 4 points (out of 10)
Total 10 (out of 50) Points-1 Mug

Nice review! I am sure others will disagree, but I actually like seeing reviews on crappy beers every now and then. This is a beer that poor college kids buy to get drunk the cheapest way possible…personally I would rather stay thirsty/sober than drink this crap!
That Andre mug is awesome, I am sure it is a collectors item.
Mark, I’m still not quite sure it is worth your time to “review” these beasts, but best wishes in your quest. This post in particular seems like a horrible waste of time.
Maybe introduce your readers to some actual craft lawnmower beers?
Great review, that was really funny in the sense that it’s a beer that has probably never been thoroughly review in the craft beer style before. As a college student I spend a fair amount of time around “natty ice” as it’s called, and it’s a beer pong favorite for its high alcohol content. Keep up the good work.
Hi Josh,
Glad you enjoyed the review! I was having a little fun with the Natty Ice review that’s for sure. I’ll probably do some more of those types of beer from time to time. I have no problem reviewing them. Heck, I still drink some of them, especially in the Summer. Keep watching, I’ve got some good beers coming up.
Hi Chris,
I’m with you. I think it’s my “duty” to review these beers. I do enjoy some of them, not this one, from time to time, especially when it’s hot and I’m doing work around the house. I drank a lot of them while in college before I knew any better or before there was much craft beer.
The fact, despite what us craft beer lovers think, is that the LARGE majority of beer consumed is still these types of beer, not craft beer. I saw something on Twitter last night that said the most popular/best beer as voted by Facebook members, was Corona! That just shows where most people are regarding craft beer, they’re not even on the same planet as us!
I’m not ashamed to review these beers and I will never think that people who drink them all the time are below me, they are just misinformed
Oh, I definitely think the Andre Mug is a priceless item. It’s definitely a blast from my past and I’ll keep him around as long as I’m on this planet. I might even have him cremated with me when I leave this earth
Hi Ben,
Don’t worry, I will definitely have the vast majority of my reviews be of craft beer. And, you’re right, there are a few “lawnmower” craft beers and I will try to review them.
I will continue to review beer from the “big 3″ every once in a while. This one was particularly bad, and was a bit of a joke review, but not everything they produce is terrible. The vast majority of beer drinkers still drink beers from the major brewers, despite what us craft beer lovers want to think, and that’s OK. In my future reviews of their products I will also add in suggested substitutes that might be worth trying. That might get a few people to try craft beer, which is my ultimate goal.
