He’Brew Jewbelation 13
Happy Birthday Shmaltz Brewing
This year marks the 13th anniversary of Shmaltz Brewing. Being the 13th year in existance they decided to call the annual edition of their Jewbelation the “Bar Mitzvah”. This beer is BIG with 13 malts, 13 hops and 13%ABV! I reviewed the Jewbelation 12 back in March and really enjoyed it and I was looking forward to the 13th edition:
13 Is Definitely A Luck Number
Jewbelation 13 is a excellent beer bordering on absolutely outstanding. I enjoyed this beer even more than the 12th anniversry edition and that was a good beer. The aroma has a ton of chocolate, dark fruit and coffee. The taste is a lot like the smell and finishes nice and dry. This beer coats the mouth and leaves a great trail in the glass as well as on your palate. The high alcohol content is pretty well hidden. But, this is definitely a sipper, not a gulper. My 22oz bottle lasted me from about 5:30PM to 8:30PM and even then I had a bit of a buzz going. If you are out enjoying this please make sure you have a designated driver! I think this will be even better in a year or so, and worthy of a 5 mug rating, and I look forward to trying a bottle then. Get some now if you can and give it a try!

Never heard of this brewery. I will seek it out though.
On a side note, do yourself a favor and seek out Goose Island’s Bourbon County Stout (you can thank me later). It just came out a little less than a week ago…it is an absolutely fantastic beer. My local beer stop got them in this past Wednesday and is already sold out, so grab it when you can.
I wish we got Goose Island down here but we don’t
I have heard lots of great things about it. I might need to give our friends in Chicago a call and see if they can send some down.
Hey Mark. This is Zak Davis from Shmaltz Brewing Company. Thanks so much for picking up that bottle of Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah. I remember seeing your review of Jewbelation 12 back in March and I’m really glad that this one lived up to the expectation. We’ve been thrilled so far with the response. This will also be a great beer to age for a couple of years. Right now, Jewbelation 12 is tasting ridiculous, and I expect that Bar Mitzvah will probably age equally well. Also, if you happen to find a bottle of this year’s Rejewvenator, it would be worth checking out as well. Half doppelbock, half Belgian-inspired dubbel, brewed with date juice. Really interesting and complex. Thanks again for the support. L’Chaim!! ~Zak
Hi Zak,
Glad you liked the review! You guys certainly did a good job w/Bar Mitzvah, it was worth the wait! It is a very complex beer that will only get even better with age. I do have an extra bottle but I think I’ll be getting another couple as well. What are you guys planning for #14? I’ll keep an eye out for Rejewvenator. If I find it I’ll review it.
