Great Lakes Glockenspiel And Healthy Burgers

Beer And Burgers On The Big Green Egg

After spending most of the day digging a French Drain in the yard to fix the occasional small leak we have in our basement, I was hungry as well as thirsty.  I had some super lean ground beef to make some healthy burgers which I wanted to grill on the Big Green Egg.  I decided to try the Great Lakes Brewing Glockenspiel, a Weizenbock, I had received from my Brother with the burgers:

Glockenspiel is a tasty, solid beer. It pours a nice dark caramel color and had a nice semi-sweet malt, caramel, and banana flavor which is typical of many wheat beers. I also got some nutmeg and cinnamon. There is plenty of malt and carbonation is OK. Drinkability is pretty good as well and the 8%ABV is fairly well hidden. It went very good with my “healthy” burgers and broccoli slaw. Glockenspiel is a Spring Seasonal so it should be in stores soon. Try it and let me know what you think.

Here is the score:

1. Appearance- 7 points (out of 10)
2. Smell- 8 points (out of 10)
3. Taste- 16 points (out of 20)
4. Drinkability- 8 points (out of 10)

Total 39 (out of 50) Points- A 4 Mug Rating

ABV 8%

I’ve always been a fan of Great Lakes, being from Ohio I guess I just have to represent! I just saw a six pack of their Irish Ale, I’ve yet to try that so I’ll have to pick some up and let you know how it is.

I haven’t seen the Glockenspiel around here though, I’m going to keep an eye out, it sounds pretty good.

      Hey Levi,

Yeah, if you’re from Ohio you MUST drink Great Lakes beer!

I wish it was distributed here because they make good brew. Definitely let me know how you liked the Irish Ale.

Good review. “Worchesterchesterchestershire” sauce… I have always found that word is too long and you found a way to make it longer.

    • Mark says:

Worcestershire is too long of a word so I figured “hey, let’s make it even longer” :-) As a kid I could never pronounce it so now that I can, if I want, I won’t.

      Thanks for watching/reading/commenting!

Alas, another brewery that I wish made it’s way to Colorado. I haven’t tried the Glock. but I recommend giving the Elliot Ness(a sessionable Vienna Lager) and one of the best and most balanced Porters I’ve had in the Edmund Fitzgerald. They both are fantastic brews. Keep them reviews and pairings coming brotha!
