Grand Tour Season Has Begun

The 2008 edition of the Giro, the first grand tour of the year, started, and I am looking forward to catching the Versus broadcast from my DVR.  A great choice to see daily race action is Steephill, a bicycle racing site.  They have a number of sources, some cost $$’s, while others are completely free.  I usually open up the live video feed from RAI.it , an Italian network, and then get live audio courtesy of Eurosport.  Between the two I get a good overview of the race.  Plus, if I want, I can listen to the audio feed from RAI and practice my Italian.

I like watching bike racing in general, and the grand tours in particular.  I really enjoy watching how the riders and teams position themselves for each stage and the whole race overall.  Even with all of the stupid riders/coaches/trainers/Dr’s, etc. that participate in doping, the racing is still good.  Sure, taking some EPO or HGH might help in recovery.  But even without that, the riders are truly amazing.  I am always amazed by how they can seemingly turn on the power at any time.  I know In the little bit of racing I have done, the surges within the pack just killed me.  The pros just take it all in stride.

If you haven’t watched much Pro bike racing, give it a shot.  This time of year is great for bike racing.  The Tour de France is coming up in July and there will probably be good coverage on Versus.
