Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout

Our review of Breckenridge Brewery’s Oatmeal Stout:

Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout is a good beer.  It has the right mix of taste, smell, and appearance to make it a very positive beer drinking experience.

The color of the beer is right on script for a stout.  It has that dark color and thick, creamy head that stouts are known for.  There is a solid roasted malt smell along with some coffee and oatmeal in the background.  The taste pretty much copies the smell with a nice clean finish.  Drinkability is very good.  This is an easy drinking beer and well worth trying.

Here is the score(new scoring system):

  1. Appearance- 6 points (out of 10)
  2. Smell- 6 points (out of 10)
  3. Taste- 17 points (out of 20)
  4. Drinkability- 8 points (out of 10)

Total 37 (out of 50) Points- A 4 Mug Rating

I have yet to pick this beer up. I have had the Agave Wheat and the Vanilla Porter from Breckenridge, but it looks like I’m going to have to give this a try.

I would like to know if the Breckenridge oatmeal stout contains wheat. I love the stout and would like to continue drinking it. (I have recently been diagnosed with a wheat allergy.)

      Hi Matt,

Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!

As for whether any beer contains wheat, unless it’s listed on the label (a wheat beer, for example) I would contact the brewer to confirm. If you have a wheat allergy (and not a general gluten) allergy, I would think that many beers would be fine. But, if you have a gluten allergy then most beer will be off-limits. I would say to get the definitive word from your Doc on whether you have a wheat or gluten allergy and then contact the brewer to double check the ingredients.

      Cheers!
