Blue Moon Grand Cru

I was walking through my beer store a few weeks ago and spotted a Blue Moon in a big fancy bottle.  The label said Grand Cru and the ABV said 8.3%.  That intrigued me so I decided to pick one up and try it out:

Grand Cru is a decent, drinkable beer.  It had all of the basic “stuff” that a Witbier is supposed to have like Orange and Coriander but it wasn’t very complex.  I think it is a better version of the regular Blue Moon, which I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve had a few of in the past.  Overall, it is a good beer, although a bit expensive at $7 but worth trying if you like Witbiers or are just curious as to what a mega brewer “Imperial Craft Beer” is all about.

Here is the score:

  1. Appearance- 7 points (out of 10)
  2. Smell- 6 points (out of 10)
  3. Taste- 14 points (out of 20)
  4. Drinkability- 7 points (out of 10)

Total 34 (out of 50) Points- A  3 Mug Rating

I drank this with my father the day before Xmas eve. I also drank a Longtrail Winter White (similar style beer), and the Longtrail was better by a mile. The Grand Cru is worth a try, but I won’t be buying it again.

That is just about my opinion on the beer as well. It’s OK but there are a lot better choices out there. For someone who wants to try a Witbier, Grand Cru won’t turn them off to the style but there is better out there.
