If you are like me you probably have trouble finding a good source for all of the different spices you need, not just for BBQ but for all your cooking. The spice section in the grocery store has a limited selection and usually fairly high prices. You could go to your local Sam’s Club or Costco and the prices are great as long as you need large quantities. If you don’t need 5 pounds of paprika then you are wasting your money.
Well, way back in 2000, soon after we moved to the Chicago area, I found my “spice nirvana”, Penzy’s Spices. They had a couple of retail locations close to us and I stumbled upon them while shopping one day. I was drawn into the store by the incredible smell of all of the spices. When I walked in I saw that they had a huge selection of almost every spice I had seen, plus some that I didn’t know existed.
Since then I have purchased most of my spices from Penzy’s both in a store and through the web. Their selection keeps growing and their prices are very reasonable, especially considering the consistent quality I get from them. They have a great variety of individual spices as well as spice mixes. There are a number of these that are sodium free which is nice. With many of the spices they have a couple of different varieties available. So, if you want Vietnamese cinnamon one time then Ceylon the next thay have you covered. Their catalogs and website have a number of good recipes as well that highlight the different spices they offer.
If you are looking for a dependable, reasonably priced, source for your cooking spices, Penzy’s might be worth checking out.
